Made by girls

Join our school

Norwich High School for Girls is a selective school in Norfolk where girls can achieve academic success in a safe and happy environment which offers a broad range of enrichment opportunities.

Places are awarded throughout the school on merit and potential. Assessments are made with every effort to put the girls at ease so they can relax, perform well and enjoy the experience. Where applications are made after the closing date, and vacancies exist, girls are assessed on an individual basis.

We are a Tier 4 Sponsor for international admissions.

Our simple application process is detailed in the six steps below.

If you would prefer to talk through the admissions process, request further information or find out more about the financial assistance available for girls joining our Senior School or Sixth Form, please contact our Registrar Miss Ali Ready by calling 01603 453 265 or emailing admissions@nor.gdst.net.

1 Register your interest

The first step to finding out more about joining our school community is to set up your own parent account. By doing so you will be creating an enquiry to the school – it only takes a matter of minutes.  From the same account you can also complete a formal application to the school.  We will then guide you through the admissions process, potentially right up until your daughter’s first day at Norwich High School for Girls.

Please note, your parent account will be needed to continue through to application, so do take a record of your login.

2 Visit us

Tour our expansive 14 acre site, meet our inspiring staff and find out what makes our Nursery, Prep School, Senior School and Sixth Form so special.

Once you have registered your email address via your new parent account above, we will be sent your inquiry, and will get in touch with you directly to arrange a suitable opportunity for a bespoke tour.

Alternatively you can contact Miss Ali Ready, our Registrar directly by calling 01603 453 265 or emailing admissions@nor.gdst.net

We host a variety of Open Events throughout the year when you can visit the school and find out more about our pioneering education for girls aged 3 to 18.

3 Application

We hope that both you and your daughter have thoroughly enjoyed visiting Norwich High School for Girls, and are interested in joining our community in Norfolk.

Applying to join is very straightforward. Simply log into your parent account (this is the parent account you registered initially on enquiry) and follow the steps to apply electronically.

Apply here.

At this stage, you will also be able to apply for Senior School and Sixth Form bursaries and scholarships. Scholarships are available at Year 7, Year 9 and Sixth Form entry.

4 Taster sessions

Taster sessions can be arranged for Early Years, the Prep School and the Senior School to suit you enabling girls to familiarise themselves with the surroundings, meet new friends and get a very real ‘feel’ for our school. We hope your daughter will enjoy this informal and relaxed experience.

Your daughter can either join us on a set taster day, to meet other new girls joining our school, or visit on a date that suits you. Usually, girls joining Year 7 or Year 9 will be invited to a taster day in November in the year prior to admission. For students joining other year groups, these will be arranged on an individual basis.

To find out more about our taster days, please contact Miss Ali Ready, our Registrar on 01603 453 265.

5 Assessment

Assessments differ for entry to each age group.

Early Years

Girls may join our Nursery from their third birthday. Prior to the offer of a place, your daughter will be invited to an informal play session (lasting about one hour) in the Early Years Hub where we will assess her potential to be happy at Norwich High School for Girls.

Prep School

At 4+, assessment is based on verbal and practical activities undertaken with the Head of the Prep School and at 7+, your daughter will spend a full day with us attending lessons and doing assessments in English, Mathematics and Reasoning.

Senior School

At 11+, 13+ and 14+, your daughter will sit an entrance assessment in English, Mathematics and Reasoning in the early spring, prior to possible entry. All girls will be interviewed by the Head, who likes to meet each girl in person.

A report will also be requested from your daughter’s current school.

Sixth Form

We admit girls directly to the Sixth Form on the basis of a minimum of six grade 6Bs at GCSE, an interview and a report from their current school.  Applicants are invited for an interview, in the Autumn Term, and an offer of a place is conditional on GCSE exam results. Interviews can be held at other times if necessary.

New girls are very welcome to visit our Sixth Form, to tour our state-of-the-art centre, and speak to key members of staff and our students. We advise new girls to get involved with our students and staff to go home with the best experience from visiting our school.

6 Offer letters

For any entrance requests which have followed the standard admissions process, offer letters will be posted by the end of February. Awards of scholarships and bursaries will also be confirmed at this stage.

We are happy to accommodate entrance requests at other times in the year, if spaces are available in your required year group. The Registrar will be able to confirm a full schedule of dates.

Once you have received an offer letter, you will have a specified amount of time to respond.

7 Welcome to Norwich High School for Girls
