The recent Norwich High School for Girls GCSE Philosophy and Religion trip to Walsingham provided an enriching experience for students, allowing them to delve deeper into the history and spiritual significance of this important pilgrimage site. The visit offered a unique opportunity for reflection, as students explored questions of faith, belief, and the role of religious traditions in shaping communities. Below, some of our students share their personal reflections on the trip.
Norwich High School for Girls GCSE Philosophy and Religion trip to Walsingham.
Violet, Year 10
“During our Philosophy and Religion trip to Walsingham, we got the chance to explore one of Engliand’s most famous pilgrimage sites. The journey was both educational and spiritual as we learned about the town’s history, particularly associated with the Virgin Mary and the famous Slipper Chapel and the Shrine. Walking through the quiet, tranquil village, we visited the ruins of the mediaeval abbey and admired the beauty of the surrounding countryside. For me, the highlight of this trip was lighting candles in the Chapel for ourselves and others. Our visit to Walsingham was a peaceful and memorable experience, combining education, history and religious faith.”
Amelia and Annie, Year 11
“We really enjoyed the Philosophy and Religion trip to Walsingham. We furthered our understanding of what we learnt in lessons by actually seeing it in real life. We got a tour of both the Anglican and Catholic shrines and learnt about the different healing stories which took place after a Walsingham pilgrimage. Overall it was a really fun trip.”
