Norwich High School Robotics Club win regional finals

Congratulations to the Norwich High School for Girls Lego Club who have achieved a decisive regional win at their first FIRST® LEGO® League tournament at Bonus Pastor Catholic College in Bromley last weekend.

The global STEM challenge for 9-16-year-olds aims to inspire young people and grow their critical thinking, coding, and design skills through hands-on STEM learning and robotics. The LEGO League sees teams of young people competing against each other, to encourage an interest in real-world themes and develop key skills that are crucial for their future careers.

In this regional tournament, the Lego Club completed tasks in three robot rounds using prewritten code which they had developed with programmed robots while at school. They also presented an innovation project on how Amazon packages could travel faster and discussed their robot design and core values (what they thought made a good team).

The team have secured a place in the England and Wales National Final, taking place in February 2022, and will compete against a number of schools from across the country.

Mr Smith, Head of Product Design, won the award for Best Coach/Mentor, which the Lego Club thought was very well deserved! Esther (Year 9) from the Lego Club commented:

“We really enjoyed and valued this experience and look forward to the next one!”
