37% A*/9-8

65% A*-A/9-7

80% A*-B/9-6

97% A*- C/9-4

Excellent GCSE results are being celebrated across the board at Norwich High School for Girls with over 36% of all grades at A*/9-8 – the highest result achieved in the last 5 years.  An outstanding 26 girls achieved between 7 and 10 A*-A/9-7 grades each, with 12 of these girls achieving straight A*-A/9-7 grades each.

Congratulations must particularly go to these nine girls who achieved an amazing 81 top grades between them:

  • Charlotte Carr and Aditi Prabu who achieved straight A*/9 grades, and Christy Tillyard who achieved nine A*/9 grades plus one 8 grade
  • Mia Higgs-Sharrock, Emma Ledward, Tallulah Brooke-Davies and Nina Metcalf who achieved nine A*/9-8 grades each
  • and Lucy Buxton and Antonia Woolliams who achieved 8 A*/9-8 grades each

Many subject areas are seeing significant increases on last year’s results too, with particularly outstanding results in English where 85% of girls received A*-A grades in English Language and 87% received the same grades in English Literature. This a 15% and 16% increase on these grades from 2018 respectively. 100% of girls received A*-B grades in English Language, with 98% gaining the same grades in English Literature.

The three sciences shone too, with a consistent high level of 9-8 grades achieved across the board, with Biology at 58% 9-8 grades, and both Chemistry and Physics at 54% 9-8 grades. There has been a significant increase on 9-7 equivalent grades too, with Biology and Chemistry 9-7 grades at a brilliant 79% each, closely followed by Physics at 75%.

Modern Foreign Language results were once again very high in the school with German students being particularly thrilled with 62% receiving the top 9-8 grades (the best results for five years once again), followed by 66% and 58% receiving excellent 9-7 grades in French and Spanish respectively. 91% of all girls achieved 9-6 grades over the three languages studied.

Mathematics 9-8 grades have continued to increase over the last two years, with almost a quarter of all girls receiving the top 9-8 grades, and 43% receiving impressive 9-7 grades. This is particularly impressive compared to the 2018 UK average of 9-7 grades, with our girls achieving double these figures.

Other subjects which had very strong 9-7 results were:

  • PE with what could be an all-time record of 91% of girls receiving 9-7 grades
  • Greek which for the second year in a row has achieved 100% 9-7 grades
  • Geography with 83% receiving 9-7 grades

Performing and Creative Arts results are once again a strength at Norwich High with significant increases in 9-6 grades in Dance (100%), Drama (82%) and Art (75%), with an impressive 50% of all girls studying Design and Technology receiving top 9-8 grades.

Kirsty von Malaisé, Headmistress said: “I am so proud of this year group who have worked exceptionally hard, with the help of their committed teachers, to achieve this brilliant set of results.  I am thrilled to be able to celebrate so many excellent individual successes, as well as record results in many subject areas too. We are all so fortunate to work with such ambitious, motivated and talented young women who contribute so much to all areas of school life.”
