97% of all results were grade 9-4, with 22% 9, 41% 9-8, 63.3% 9-7 and 80% 9-6.

There was a wonderful atmosphere of celebration at Norwich High School for Girls this morning as our Year 11 students returned to receive their GCSE results, sharing the moment with friends, teachers and proud families. After months of hard work and determination, students were able to celebrate their achievements and reflect on everything they have accomplished during their time at Norwich High.

For the Class of 2026, today is not only about results. It is about recognising how far they have come, celebrating the subjects and activities they have discovered a passion for, and looking ahead to the opportunities that await them.

Celebrating An Outstanding Year

The Class of 2026 has achieved an excellent set of GCSE results, with 97% of grades awarded at grades 9–4, 63% at grades 9–7 – the highest in recent years, and 41% at grades 9–8.

An impressive 22% of all grades were awarded at grade 9, the highest possible GCSE grade.

Overall, almost a third of the year group – achieved grades 9–7 across all of their GCSEs. In both English and Maths, students also achieved strong results, with 97% of English grades and 90% of Maths grades awarded at 9–4.

“Congratulations to all our girls on a fantastic set of results, reflecting their hard work, determination and ambition. Their achievements demonstrate the confidence, resilience and potential of our students, and highlight the value of our Girls First approach: prioritising an all-girls environment designed to build confidence and ambition by enabling girls the freedom to learn and grow beyond gender stereotypes.

These results open the door to exciting future pathways, including continuing their journey with us through our Sixth Form. We are immensely proud of all they have achieved and look forward to seeing them take their next steps with confidence and aspiration.”

Exceptional Results Across the Board

The Class of 2026 achieved excellent results across a broad and ambitious curriculum, with particularly strong performances in the sciences, languages, humanities and creative subjects.

In Chemistry, 58% of grades were awarded at grade 9, with 83% achieving grades 9–8 and 83% achieving grades 9–7. Physics was similarly strong, with 50% of grades at grade 9, while Biology saw 54% of grades awarded at grade 9.

Languages were another standout area. French saw an impressive 50% of grades awarded at grade 9, with three quarters of grades at 9–7. In German, 63% of grades were 9–8 and 75% were 9–7, while Spanish saw half of all grades awarded at 9–8.

The creative arts also produced outstanding results. In Art, 69% of grades were awarded at 9–8 and 85% at 9–7, while Music achieved 50% at 9–8 and 80% at 9–7. Textiles Design also saw 64% of grades at 9–7.

Strong results were also achieved across the humanities, with 51% of History grades awarded at 9–8 and 85% at 9–7. Classical Civilisation was another standout, with over a third of grades awarded at grade 9, alongside strong performances in Latin and Religious Studies. In the core subjects, 97% of grades in both English Language and English Literature were awarded at 9–4, alongside 90% of Maths grades.

These results reflect not only the academic commitment of the Class of 2026, but the breadth of opportunities available to students at Norwich High, enabling them to discover subjects they enjoy and develop their individual strengths.

“I would really like to congratulate our students on their amazing GCSE achievements. Outstanding results in Triple Science, French, History, Art, English Literature and Music demonstrate the diversity of interest and excellence in our community. In a school where every girl is known, we also celebrate the stories of those  who will not hit the headlines, but far exceeded their expectations, or triumphed in life’s adversity. All made possible of course by our incredible staff team who pulled out every stop to inspire, encourage and support.”

Finding What They Love

For our Year 11 students, GCSE Results Day is about much more than a set of grades.

Over the past two years, students have had the opportunity to explore a broad curriculum alongside an extensive programme of sport, music, drama, art, clubs, societies and enrichment activities. For many, this has helped them discover subjects and interests that they may not have expected to pursue when they first started their GCSEs.

For some students, GCSE study has confirmed a passion they already knew they wanted to follow. For others, a particular subject, teacher or experience has opened up an entirely new possibility.

Case Studies: From GCSE Success To Future Ambitions

We are also proud to highlight some of the individual successes within this year’s results:

Gamar: Making the Most of Every Opportunity

Having joined Norwich High in Year 9, Gamar has made the most of her time at the school, achieving an impressive set of GCSE results, including a grade 9 in Maths, alongside three grade 8s, three grade 7s and a grade 6.

Looking ahead to Sixth Form, Gamar plans to study Biology, Chemistry and Psychology, although her strong Maths result has left her considering adding Maths to the mix. Her ambition is to study Medicine and ultimately become a doctor.

Outside the classroom, sport has been an important part of Gamar’s Norwich High experience. A high-level netball player, she has represented the school while also competing outside school. Through the Girls’ School Day Trust (GDST), Gamar was selected for the GDST Select Squad, bringing together talented netball players from across the Trust to train and compete together.

For Gamar, her time at Norwich High has been about more than academic results. Since joining in Year 9, she feels she has become “a completely different person”, describing herself as more mature, confident and positive about school and life in general.

Her advice to her younger self is simple: “Trust yourself. Have confidence, and it will be okay.”

Evie: Finding Her Voice Through Music

For Evie, her GCSE results are a celebration of two subjects she has developed a particular passion for during her time at Norwich High: French and Music.

Having joined the school in Year 7, Evie achieved grade 9s in both subjects, alongside strong results across her other GCSEs, including an 8 in Geography, German and English Language, and an 8–8 in Combined Science.

A Music Scholar at Norwich High, Evie plays three instruments – violin, piano and clarinet. She has performed regularly as part of the school’s musical life, taking part in concerts, the Carol Service and Music Scholar concerts.

That passion will continue into Sixth Form, where Evie plans to study Music, French and English Literature.

For Evie, however, her Norwich High experience has been about more than academic and musical achievement. She describes the school as a “nurturing” environment where she has grown in confidence while being encouraged to work hard and make the most of opportunities.

Looking ahead to Sixth Form, Evie is excited to continue learning about the subjects she enjoys, spending time with friends and taking advantage of new opportunities – including a forthcoming trip to Iceland combining music and geography.

Amelia: Success in the Classroom and on the Water

Having joined Norwich High in Nursery at just three years old, Amelia is celebrating an outstanding set of GCSE results, including seven grade 9s, two grade 8s and two grade 7s.

One of the results she is mot proud of is her grade 9 in Further Maths –  a subject she has discovered a real passion for. That enjoyment has shaped Amelia’s next steps. She will continue at Norwich High Sixth Form, studying Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics and is considering studying Maths at university.

Alongside her academic studies, Amelia has also found a passion beyond the classroom through rowing. Competing as part of the school team alongside close friends, she has shared both the challenges and successes of the sport with a group who have also achieved an exceptional set of GCSE results.

Her rowing teammates Amelia R and Annabel are both celebrating nine grade 9s and a grade 8, while Anna has achieved three grade 9s, two grade 8s and four grade 7s. Together, the four friends have achieved an impressive set of results while continuing to train and compete as part of the school rowing team.

Now looking ahead to Sixth Form, Amelia is excited about becoming more independent while remaining part of the Norwich High community she has known for most of her life.

Choosing The Right Pathway

For students continuing into Sixth Form, today’s results mark the beginning of another exciting stage of their education.

Choosing A Levels is an important decision, but it does not mean that students need to have their entire future mapped out at 16. Instead, it is an opportunity to choose subjects that genuinely interest them, build on their strengths and continue exploring the areas they enjoy.

At Norwich High, students are supported throughout this process, with guidance to help them make choices that reflect their individual interests, ambitions and strengths.

The breadth of our Sixth Form means that students can continue to explore subjects across the sciences, humanities, languages, mathematics and creative disciplines, while also developing their independence, confidence and wider interests.

Whether a student arrives in Year 12 with a clear career ambition or is still working out where her interests might lead, Norwich High Sixth Form provides the environment, support and opportunities to help her develop her own pathway.

Warm congratulations to all of our students receiving their GCSE results today. It is impossible to overstate the immense hard work that goes into achieving success across such a broad range of subjects, and we are delighted to celebrate with our Year 11 cohort this morning. We are also greatly looking forward to welcoming our new Lower Sixth in just a few weeks as they embark on their Sixth Form journey – one that promises exciting challenges, intellectual stretch, and a healthy dose of fun along the way.
