Pitch Perfect: Norwich High Prep Hosts Successful Girls’ Football Tournament

Posted on 1st May 2025

Ten schools joined together for Norwich High Prep’s popular annual U11 Football Tournament.

On Friday 25th April 2025, Norwich High School for Girls welcomed nine visiting primary schools for our annual Prep Football Tournament. This is now the fourth football tournament hosted by Norwich High Prep School and it remains a hugely popular event.

A packed schedule saw the young footballers participate in a series of ten minute games, resulting in a remarkable 60 matches across the day. The morning session saw the teams divided into two groups, battling it out on both the Big Pitch and the Little Pitch. As the day progressed, the stakes heightened as the teams transitioned into afternoon groups, vying for the coveted Gold Cup and Silver Cup.

There were brilliant examples of football skills and teamwork throughout the day and huge congratulations go to the overall winners of each group: Queens Hill (Gold Cup) and Cringleford (Silver Cup).

Our Norwich High Prep School team girls played very well throughout the day. They came top of their morning group and competed brilliantly in the Gold Cup, eventually finishing in 4th place overall. A special mention to Jasmine who played in goal, who made quick reaction saves all day to keep the girls in lots of the games. Also, another special mention should go to Beth, who helped Mr Barker with the scoring throughout the day. Her organisation and initiative meant that her good work was noticed by many of the visiting teachers.

“The tournament was a huge success, and I would like to thank the site team for making such a big effort to get the pitches ready for the event. It is always a huge pleasure being able to show off our school to visiting families and pupils. We had 100 pupils competing, and several families were very complimentary of the school itself. It certainly was a wonderful way to end the week! Finally, a well done to the players. They have played well all season, and this was a great achievement to finish our tournament in 4th place against a high standard of teams. Now, my wish is for them to continue playing football as they move into the Senior School.”

What our pupils say…

“The Norwich High football team including myself recently played in the all day football tournament which was a very fun experience where we played football with other schools from Norwich. I found it very immersive watching all the matches as well as playing them. My highlight was getting the GOAT award at the end of the day chosen by Miss McLaren! I loved watching our team grow in confidence and skill throughout the day. Overall we placed fourth in the Gold Cup out of 10 teams which was very impressive.” – Jasmine (Year 6)

“The Norwich High School Year 6 football team recently took part in a football tournament we were hosting. During the competition we showed great enthusiasm and determination to the sport and thoroughly enjoyed the match play. We worked very hard and it paid off as we got through to the Gold League in which we finished fourth after some very taxing games. Overall it was a positive experience that we learned many life skills from. Thank you to the school for putting on this special event that brought many of the schools in Norwich together!” – Phoebe (year 6)
