Norwich High School for Girls GDST is set to host its third annual Hack-her-thon on 21st March 2025, inviting female students from Years 9-13 across Norfolk to engage in an exciting day of cyber challenges and coding innovation.

Following the success of previous years, the event continues to provide an inspiring space for young women to explore the world of computer science. Last year, more than 50 students from multiple schools collaborated with industry professionals to design and develop their own ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ code, themed around dragons.

The 2025 Hack-her-thon will feature a similar structure, beginning with teams tackling logic puzzles and code-breaking tasks, followed by an immersive afternoon where participants will work in teams on a coding challenge.

Students of all experience levels are encouraged to participate, as the event fosters an inclusive and supportive atmosphere where young coders can build confidence and develop their problem-solving abilities.

The initiative was originally led by Norwich High School alumnae Alice Tubby and Britt Dewing, who launched the Hack-her-thon to create an empowering space for female students in tech. Their vision continues to inspire a new generation of coders, reinforcing the importance of diverse and welcoming environments in the field of computer science.

Any students, teachers or mentors who want to find out more about taking part in this year’s Hack-her-thon can email Norwich High Head of Computer Science, Mr Ian Horne, at i.horne@nor.gdst.net.
