The course is offered within the current allocation of timetabled lessons for Mathematics and runs over Years 9, 10 and 11, culminating in two examination papers taken at the end of Year 11. One lesson per fortnight is available to those who wish to continue with the course, with clear expectations that students are prepared to work outside of lesson time.
Additional Mathematics courses are aimed at stretching and challenging those with a particular aptitude or interest in the subject and have always been a feature of the Senior School at Norwich High. They offer extra insight into the A Level Maths and A Level Further Maths courses that are available in the Sixth Form, whilst also building confidence and enhancing success at IGCSE level too.
The Level 2 Further Mathematics course is neither a GCSE nor an A Level – it is a ‘free standing qualification’ that straddles somewhere between the two. Those students who do not take the course use this time to further develop and enhance their performance, working with real purpose to master and improve their fluency with the content of the IGCSE Maths course.
