At Norwich High School for Girls GDST, the welfare of our students is our highest priority. We are committed to providing a safe, nurturing and supportive environment where every child can thrive. Our most recent ISI inspection confirmed that our arrangements to safeguard and promote the welfare of students are effective, highlighting the relaxed and trusting relationships between staff and students.
Safeguarding at our school
Our commitment to welfare
We believe that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Our staff and volunteers receive comprehensive safeguarding training upon induction, which includes specific guidance on identifying risks such as radicalisation and extremism. This training is regularly updated to ensure all members of our community understand and follow the latest national guidance.
Students are empowered to know how to stay safe, both in person and online. Our school’s internet system is protected by robust filtering and monitoring systems to ensure a secure digital learning environment.
Reporting concerns
We maintain an open door culture where students feel comfortable approaching staff with any worries. In addition to speaking or emailing directly with their trusted adult, students can report concerns via:
- The Wellbeing Lodge: A dedicated space where students can find the School Nurse, the Designated Safeguarding Lead and the School Counsellor.
- Physical Concern Box: Located outside the Library for confidential written reports.
When concerns are raised, we take prompt and robust action. We work effectively with external agencies to ensure incidents are managed suitably and that vulnerable students receive thorough, appropriate support plans.

Governance and policy
Our safeguarding policy is reviewed annually by local governors and the GDST to ensure it meets all regulatory standards and remains effective. We also practice safer recruitment, ensuring that all staff and volunteers undergo rigorous pre-employment checks before joining our community.
