Senior Games and Sport

General Information

Matches and Team Selection

We strive to provide opportunities for all students to participate in competitive matches against other schools. PE staff use their professional judgement to select these teams. This knowledge is gained from trials, lessons, sports clubs and competition and is discussed regularly by the PE department. Teams range from A, B, C and D, depending on the sport and size of the year group.

At the start of each term trials are held for each of our major Games (hockey, netball, cricket) and other individual sports (eg swimming, tennis and cross country). For Games lessons, students are set into groups. However, levels of improvement and development occur at different stages for each individual so there will be fluidity in team selection based on this development.

Sports Clubs are also timetabled before and after school, as well as at lunchtime for students to attend and hone their skills and tactics further. Attendance at these clubs is encouraged if students wish to represent the school at sport.

Students should be very proud of representing the school, no matter what team they are selected for and endeavour to use these competitive situations to help progress and develop their talents.

SOCS Sport (School online calendar system)

All sports matches and tournaments for the term can be found on the School Online Calendar (SOCS). You can also access specific fixture information such as teamsheets and timings a week in advance of any matches.

All senior students and parents should access this information through their mobile devices / school ipads, regularly checking match details, as we do not send out team sheets via email.

Please follow the instructions sent via Parent Email to set up SOCS SPORT on your devices (please note this is for all SPORTS information. You can also log onto your child’s SOCS homepage and see timetable / music lessons / clubs / teams they have been selected for – Mrs Hood (Director of Co-curricular) is sending information about this separately): https://sport.norwichhigh.gdst.net

We encourage all students to join local sports clubs to consolidate and develop their knowledge and skills. If a student has a clash of commitment with school and their club they should talk to the teacher in charge.
