Over the summer and further to the Sixth form LEAD team’s success in the final of the GDST LEAD programme in April, two of our students, Hannah and Elitsa, won the opportunity to take part in a one week internship with Gleeds, a global construction and property consultancy firm based in London. Both students thoroughly enjoyed their experience and we are very grateful to Gleeds for providing this opportunity.
Year 13 students Hannah and Elitsa reflect on their one week internship with Gleeds, a global construction and property consultancy firm based in London.
Hannah comments:
“Over the summer at Gleeds, I gained valuable work experience shadowing professionals in fields such as cost management and project management. I particularly enjoyed project management, which demonstrated the importance of coordinating various elements from different departments to ensure a successful project. The highlight of my experience was the site visit, where I found learning about the construction process engaging. It was something I’d never really thought about but this experience helped me appreciate the importance of construction as the foundation of our cities!”
Elitsa comments:
“During our placement at Gleeds, I had the opportunity to learn how large-scale construction projects are planned and managed, including the variety of roles involved in the process. I particularly enjoyed learning about cost management, as it highlighted the value and real life applications of skills I have learned during business A level. My favourite part from our placement was visiting the sites; it was fascinating to see the stages required in order to build complex projects. Tours of two sites allowed us to see behind the scenes which I really enjoyed as we were able to link the work we’d done in the office in action on the sites.”
