Sixth Form Academic

Finding the right path

Students complete A Levels and BTECs alongside the EPQ. They become active members of their communities – leaving a legacy and instilling volunteering which continues into adulthood.

SIX+ Programme

Our SIX+ programme is designed to support your success and equip you with the skills needed not only at A Level, but well beyond.

  • Academics: Excel and innovate – become the architects of your own future.
  • Perspectives: Get connected – collaborate to make a difference.
  • Electives: Push the boundaries – make it happen.

The best advice we can give is for you to be ambitious about your future and to work hard now.

Our aim is not to mould you into any particular future version of yourself but to give you the experiences and opportunities you need to recognise and define your own pathway. Our students strive to be the best that they can be and we are delighted to be able to support them in doing so. In 2023, Norwich High Sixth Form was ranked 54th in the country national ranking based on our A Level results.

Sixth Form propels you towards your future, but you don’t do this alone. Each Sixth Form cohort works together to maximise their returns. Just as migrating geese benefit from the collective uplift of each set of beating wings, together we enhance the collective and individual velocity.

Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth students are placed together in small tutor groups, enabling you to socialise and share ideas and experience with your peers. We have a very experienced tutor team who work closely with students throughout your time in the Sixth Form. Tutors get to know each tutee well, providing coaching and mentoring on a one-to-one basis.

VELOCITY

VELOCITY propels us from where we are now to where we want to be.

Velocity is both a tool kit for Sixth Form study and a set of values we look to nurture to amplify a young person’s impact.

Tool Kit:

Vision: Make the connection between what you are doing and the outcome you are aiming for.
Effort: Efficient effort is about spending your time most effectively.
Leadership: Take the lead on initiatives and drive new ideas.
Organisation: Organise your learning and your time so you can complete key tasks to deadlines.
Changemakers: Recognise your own agency to make a difference within the school and community.
Integrity: Make good on your commitments. Be truthful, trustworthy and highly reliable.
Technique: Learn how to successfully learn and revise. Develop effective and deliberate methods.
Yet: Develop a growth mindset. Develop resilience to not give up and support your friends.

Girls’ Day School Trust

Through our family of GDST schools, we gain a competitive advantage: for instance securing excellent, inspiring and broad ranging speakers. GDST Life is an online community, providing collaborative opportunities between Sixth Formers with similar interests; and through GDST Rungway, we have a platform that can harness the advice of thousands of alumnae.

The GDST Alumnae Network is also a wonderful resource of over 100,000 GDST ‘old girls’. In addition the GDST runs university preparation days and industry ‘Insight Days’, and colleagues from universities provide advice on preparing strong applications, student finance and other professionals provide sessions on gap years, apprenticeships and more. We also provide sessions on CV writing, building an online profile and interview techniques as well as individual careers interviews with an accredited professional.
