Over the summer holidays, Norwich High School for Girls underwent a series of significant renovations and maintenance projects, blending essential upkeep of our historic buildings with exciting new developments to keep us at the forefront of education in Norfolk. These works ensure that our campus not only preserves its rich heritage but also provides a cutting-edge environment for our students to learn and thrive.
Over the summer, several areas of Norwich High School for Girls GDST underwent renovations, ranging from essential maintenance to our historic features to exciting modern refurbishments.
Preserving our Heritage
Much of the summer’s work focused on the careful maintenance of our beautiful, historic site. Essential external repairs were carried out on Eaton Grove and the Newmarket Road wall to preserve their structural integrity and iconic appearance. Inside, several areas received vital attention, including new flooring and repairs in the C Corridor, Churchman and DBS. This dedicated effort ensures our historic buildings remain in top condition for generations to come, allowing us to continue our tradition of excellence in a beautiful setting.
Exciting New Developments
In addition to vital maintenance, we also introduced several new and improved spaces designed to enhance the student experience and provide state-of-the-art facilities:
Art and Technology
The art rooms in Eaton Grove have been completely renovated, offering a refreshed and inspiring space for our creative students to develop their skills. The Sixth Form also saw a major upgrade with the installation of a brand-new Mac Suite, providing students with cutting-edge technology to support their studies across a range of subjects including art, music and computer science. Thank you to the NHSA for their generous contribution towards this project.
Pastoral Care
At the Prep School, Stafford House is now home to a new, dedicated pastoral room known as ‘Base Camp’. This welcoming and supportive space, complete with a unique glass cube meeting room for 1:1 parent meetings, offers a private and calm environment for pupils to seek guidance and support, reinforcing our commitment to student well-being. Pupils have been introduced to the room during their PSHE lessons with new Deputy Head Mrs Tea and are already looking forward to using the dedicated space, including with new ‘Tea and Talk’ check ins.
Infrastructure and Sustainability
The school’s commitment to sustainability and modern efficiency is evident in the new, energy-efficient boilers provided by the GDST. These new boilers serve not only the Sixth Form but also the school swimming pool, and together with a whole school new boiler management system will significantly reduce our energy consumption. Furthermore, our IT infrastructure underwent a major upgrade, with new server rooms being installed to ensure our digital learning platforms are faster, more reliable and ready to meet the demands of modern education.
These extensive renovations and upgrades reflect our ongoing commitment to providing an exceptional educational environment. By investing in both our historic buildings and our modern facilities, we are ensuring that our school is ready to support the next generation of learners.
