Norwich High School for Girls was buzzing with excitement yesterday as we welcomed Year 5 pupils from local primary schools Lakenham, Cringleford, Little Melton, Sprowston and Eaton for a special STEM Discovery Day. This event, part of our 150th anniversary celebrations, aimed to inspire young minds through a carousel of engaging activities spanning Maths, Science, Engineering and Outdoor Learning.

It was fantastic to host so many enthusiastic children, with close to our target of 150 attendees, highlighting the strength of our partnerships with local schools. Our own girls have greatly enjoyed some of the same STEM activities during British Science Week, so it was a pleasure to share this experience.

The day featured a variety of hands-on sessions, from mathematical challenges to scientific experiments, engineering tasks and explorations in our Dingly Dell outdoor learning area and House allotments. A special highlight was a visit from Ed from Mini Monsters, who brought a variety of amazing animals for the children to discover, including a bearded dragon, snake and tarantula!

We were delighted to receive positive feedback from the visiting teachers:

We extend our sincere thanks to all the staff and Year 9 student helpers who supported this action-packed day, ensuring its smooth running and creating a positive and inspiring environment for our young visitors. We hope the Year 5 pupils left with a spark of curiosity and a newfound enthusiasm for STEM subjects!
