Autumn Term Sports Highlights: Regional Finalists for Netball and Hockey

Posted on 18th December 2023

A round up of the regional finals for Norwich High’s sports teams.

Netball

On Saturday 25th November, the U14 and U16 Norwich High School for Girls netball squads took part in the County Tournaments. This competition is the second round of the national competition and those schools reaching the county final will represent Norfolk in the regional finals, so there was lots to play for.

U16 Netball Squad

The U16’s played Wymondham College, Charter, Downham Market and Reepham in their group matches. They played some scintillating netball in all matches scoring 66 goals and only conceding 16, winning all of their matches.

In the semi final they met Aylsham High School but once again played some excellent netball to win comfortably.

In the final they met Norwich School. In a very tight and exciting game the team played magnificently and at full time and after extra time the game was still all square with the game going to golden goal and unfortunately Norwich coming out winners. We cannot be more proud of the team who played some excellent netball.

Congratulations to the squad who now go on to represent Norfolk in the regional finals on the 27th January in Hertfordshire.

Well done to Claudia, Immy, Thalia, Sophie, Daisy, Hope, Jaimie, Rebecca and Millie.

U14 Netball Squad

The U14’s had a very hard group to negotiate meeting Wymondham, Gresham’s, Sprowston and Downham Market. They played exceptionally well to go unbeaten in the group stage amassing 37 goals and conceding 21. In the semi-final they met Aylsham High. In a very tight, tense game the team came out winners and went forward to meet Norwich School in the final. In the final the team performed well but were unable to overcome a strong Norwich team.

Congratulations to the team who now go on to represent Norfolk in the regional finals on the 27th January in Hertfordshire.

Well done to Eleri, Megan, Lucy, Isla, Gamar, Sophie, Lexi, Chloe and Ava.

Hockey

We are delighted that three of our hockey teams qualified for regional tournaments this term.

U12 Hockey Squad

The U12 hockey team were runners up at the County tournament in October. They played brilliantly throughout the afternoon without conceding a goal. In December the team travelled to Ipswich to take part in the Regional final, finishing joint ninth overall. Well done to Ariane Ellie-Rose, Sadie-Belle, Liviya, Isla, Emma, Annika, Daisy and Poppy

U14 Hockey Squad

The U14 hockey team put in a resilient and impressive performance at the Tier 2 Regional Hockey tournament on Friday 10th November to narrowly miss out on progressing to the knockout final. With wins over Royal Hospital School, Brentwood School and draws against Queenswood, Bedford Girls and Bishop Stortford, the team only lost to the eventual winners. Players of the tournament were awarded to Amy for a fine display of saves in goal and Sophie for her work rate and cool finishing in front of goal.

Well done to the squad: Amy (GK), Maya, Eleri, Nicole, Gamar, Lexi, Chloe, Isla, Summer, Sophie, Lucia, Sasha, Megan and Eliza.

1st Hockey Squad

The 1st Hockey team were crowned Tier 4 County champions in October, after enjoying an unbeaten afternoon, which is a fantastic achievement for this young team. Player of the tournament was Claudia and the Grit award went to Rebecca.

Well done to the squad: Imogen, Kate, Thalia, Rebecca, Emily, Zara, Sophie, Lisa, Claudia, Rosie, Jaimie and India

“The standard of sport this term has been exceptional, and I must congratulate all the students as well as our excellent PE staff. Our success in netball and hockey continues and I am so proud of how everyone continues to work hard and give their best. Our broader sport offering includes rowing, equestrian, swimming and football, with many students excelling at sport outside of school including squash, dance and cheerleading to name a few. I am really looking forward to our spring term where we will be focusing on netball, with many fixtures and tournaments planned.”
