Congratulations to the Norwich High School for Girls Year 11 students as they receive their GCSE results

Students and staff at Norwich High School for Girls are celebrating receiving a fantastic set of GCSE results today.

Students and staff at Norwich High School for Girls are celebrating receiving a fantastic set of GCSE results today following the return to in person examinations for the first time since the covid pandemic began.

  • 60% of all results were graded 9-8, with a quarter of all students achieving straight 9-8s and nearly half of all students achieving 9-7.
  • 98% of results were graded 9-4 in English and Mathematics, and 97% of results across all subjects were graded 9-4.

Alison Sefton, Head of Norwich High School for Girls said: “Students should be very proud of their excellent results collected today, especially given that this cohort faced a disrupted start to their senior school education due to the covid pandemic.”

Particular congratulations must go to Saishruti Alanoor, Shaana Amarawickrama, Saanvi Shenoy, Selina Husain, Annalise Smith and Erin Wilcox who were awarded straight 9s.

Three quarters of all GCSE English grades at Norwich High School for Girls were graded 9-8, with English Language 75% 9-8 and English Literature 78% 9-8. This was reflected for History with 74% of all GCSE grades being 9-8. For Geography 78% of all grades were 9-7. Fine Art grades were also excellent at 80% 9-7.

Strong step into STEM for the new Year 12 cohort across Science, Mathematics, Psychology and Computer Science

The students at Norwich High School for Girls are celebrating after achieving incredible GCSE results across the suite of STEM subjects. Across the cohort, 80% of the grades achieved in Triple Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) were graded 9-8.

Such a strong grounding and enthusiasm for STEM subjects in the girls-only environment at Norwich High School for Girls is resulting in a large number of students going on to study STEM subjects including Computer Science and Psychology at A Level in our Sixth Form.

Many also choose to take STEM further onto University and beyond, as evidenced by 14% of the outgoing Year 13 students from Norwich High Sixth Form who are, this year, going on to University to study Medicine. Read more about our A Level results 2022 here.

Congratulations are due to Zara Hunter who achieved nine 9s and an 8 at GCSE including a 9 in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Zara, who joined Norwich High in Year 9, was a founding member of our F24 racing squad. Her love of engineering and motorsport has been ignited through her STEM subjects as well as the extra curricular opportunities she has embraced at Norwich High School for Girls. Read more here.

Classics tradition lives on with fantastic Latin GCSE results at Norwich High School for Girls

Norwich High School for Girls includes Latin for all students from Year 7, with many choosing to continue studying the subject at GCSE as well as Classical Civilisation and Classical Greek. The engaging approach to these subjects by the dedicated teaching department as well as the hard work and enthusiasm of the students has paid off for the outgoing Year 11 cohort, with 100% of the Latin students achieving 9-8 at GCSE. The five students going on to study Latin A Level at Norwich High Sixth Form all achieved a 9 grading at GCSE.

Rhianna Holloway, who joined Norwich High in Year 7 gained grade 9 in Classical Civilisation, Classical Greek and Latin and is planning to study A Level Latin, Classical Civilisation, Greek and English at Norwich High School for Girls Sixth Form from September.

Modern Foreign Language GCSE results success at Norwich High School for Girls

As well as Latin, Norwich High School for Girls offers two modern languages from Year 8 with many students choosing to take a combination of French, German and Spanish at GCSE. This dual language approach alongside a dynamic, diverse and supportive teaching team, has led to impressive GCSE results. In particular, French GCSE results were 78% 9-7, and this was 71% 9-7 for German.

Sporting excellence at Norwich High School for Girls

Sport is an integral part of school life at Norwich High School for Girls, and through our Elite Athlete Programme, we support and mentor students who participate in sport at regional level and above with nutrition, injury prevention and further training programmes. Congratulations must go to Erin Wilcox who received fantastic GCSE results today.

Erin, who joined Norwich High School for Girls in Year 9, achieved nine GCSEs at grade 9, and excels at netball. She has been selected as a member of the GDST Select Team, plays in the super league Saracens Mavericks Thetford Futures Hub, is a member of the Saracens Mavericks U15 side and is also a current Thoroughbreds senior club player.

An incredible performance from the Norwich High School for Girls Music and Drama GCSE students

The Music and Drama Departments at Norwich High School for Girls are passionate about offering every student the chance to express themselves creatively through performances. Students get involved with performing, directing, producing, choreographing and hosting – developing invaluable transferable skills.

In today’s results, 100% of Music grades at GCSE were grade 9, and 70% of Drama grades were 9-7.

Congratulations are due to Eve Kelleway, who joined Norwich High School for Girls in Year 9, gained six 9s and three 8s at GCSE. An extremely talented organ player, Eve is going on to study Music, English Literature and German at Norwich High Sixth Form from September.

A standing ovation is due to a group of next year’s Norwich High Sixth Form Year 12 Drama students: Amelie Atkinson, Amelia Rowlands, Amy Skepelhorn and Hannah Sydney. They have all excelled in Drama and together achieved 9-7 in their GCSE examinations. This is extra special as they all appeared as leading members of the cast in the Norwich High School for Girls production of Made in Dagenham during Year 11. Bravo all!

We are delighted that many of our Year 11s will be staying on for our excellent Sixth Form, when we also welcome new students into the school community.
