Posted on 26th July 2023

The past year has been an incredible journey of growth, learning and achievement for the students undertaking the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).

From developing critical research skills to presenting their findings, the EPQ has allowed students to showcase their dedication, creativity, and passion. Fourteen Year 13 students and six Year 12 students were able to complete their projects in time for submission in May 2023 and several more Year 12 students finished by the end of the summer term.

Undertaking the EPQ requires students to independently explore a topic of their choice, demonstrating their ability to manage their time effectively and conduct in-depth research. The students have embraced this challenge wholeheartedly, selecting a diverse range of captivating subjects. From investigating the impact of tourism on manatees in Florida to exploring whether human rights due diligence should become binding by law, the projects were thought-provoking and addressed important issues in our society.

“One of the standout features of the EPQ at Norwich High School for Girls is the strong emphasis on academic rigour.”

Students were encouraged to critically analyse their sources, ensuring that their projects were based on reliable and up-to-date information. The guidance provided by the dedicated supervisors and our librarian-supervisor enabled the students to navigate through the vast sea of knowledge, sharpening their research and analytical skills. This rigorous approach has undoubtedly prepared the students for the demands of higher education and beyond.

Throughout the year, the students exhibited remarkable creativity and innovation in their project presentations. From visually stunning posters to captivating slide presentations, each student showcased their findings in a unique and engaging manner. The ability to effectively communicate complex ideas is a vital skill in today’s society, and the EPQ has provided these students with a platform to develop and refine their presentation skills.

The EPQ has nurtured a strong sense of community and collaboration among the students. Peer support and feedback played a pivotal role in the development of their projects. The regular group discussions allowed students to exchange ideas, provide constructive criticism, and offer encouragement. The camaraderie among the EPQ cohort created an environment that fostered growth and nurtured a sense of collective achievement accumulating in a really well-delivered and captivating EPQ assembly at the beginning of June.

In conclusion, the year for the Extended Project Qualification at Norwich High School for Girls has been a resounding success this year. The students’ dedication, creativity, and critical thinking skills have shone through in their projects.
