It has been an exciting start to 2022 at Norwich High School for Girls. The school has opened the doors to its brand new Fitness Suite this month.
Located by the Albemarle Road entrance of the school site, the new fitness suite is equipped to ensure that students and staff can enjoy a range of cardiovascular equipment as well as free weights. Senior School students have been using the space since the start of term during their Games lessons and have been attending gym inductions with the PE Department to get familiar with the new equipment.
Works for this project began in July 2021 and the fitness suite is part of a bigger renovation project across the school site which has seen the Nursery girls join Reception in the new Early Years’ Foundation Stage (EYFS) hub in the Prep School. The new hub, which opened to younger pupils in September 2021, brings together the Nursery and Reception girls into one bespoke area and has therefore allowed the formation of the new fitness suite where the Nursery used to be.
The space has been transformed and the new suite boasts a similar offering to most modern gyms of equivalent size, and includes an extensive range of equipment, including a set of spin bikes, cardio and resistance machines, as well as a free weights room. Using the digital technology on the cardio machines, students are able to record aspects of their training to enhance workouts and monitor and record progress. There is also a substantial outdoor area, with plans for a trim trail and outdoor resistance machines to be installed in the future.
