Senior School and Sixth Form students from Norwich High School for Girls presented their bi-annual school musical last weekend with a spooktacular run of sold out performances of The Addams Family Musical.

The talented cast, skilled musicians and dedicated production team brought to life the beloved Addams Family with eerie charm and impeccable humour.

The Addams Family, a comical feast that embraces the wackiness in every family, features an original story and it’s every father’s nightmare: Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family– a man her parents have never met. And if that wasn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before– keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.

“We were drawn to the wonderfully Gothic show, with its clever, witty lyrics that celebrate alternative lifestyles. The production not only captures the essence of the iconic characters, but also embraces the show’s underlying theme of love in all its bizarre and wholesome forms.”

Mrs Hannah Rae-Gardner, Head of Drama and Dance at Norwich High School for Girls

Mrs Rae-Gardner continues: “This musical was the first time we have presented a large production in Eaton Grove Hall for many years. The setting of the stage in our historic main building was fitting for this Musical, and lent a great atmosphere along with the fabulous set, costumes and lighting.

“It has been a real pleasure to see the students of Norwich High School grow into their roles. They have worked hard to put together the music, acting and dancing. It has been great to work with such dedicated and enthusiastic students. With students working in all elements of the production including backstage, I am so proud of how everyone stepped up, worked hard and delivered. It was very heartening to hear lots of laughter and generous applause from all the audiences of parents, staff and friends over our four sold out performances.

“Having two casts allowed lots of students the chance to take the main roles, and they all did so well. Our ensemble also tirelessly delivered and helped the whole production, along with the fantastic live orchestra, feel west-end worthy. Well done to the entire cast, orchestra and production team – you are terrifyingly talented!”.

Members of the audience commented:
